Learning Lounge
School Building Expo is proud to announce our first Learning Lounge in the back of the show floor. All attendees are welcome to attend these interesting and informative talks on Wednesday, June 3rd.
10:30 - 11:00 AM Spray Applied Acoustic FinishesReflective noise in the form of reverberation and flutter echo often spoils the usability of an architectural space. These areas are not limited to the gymnoiseum, but also such areas as natatoriums, classrooms, cafeterias, and auditoriums. Sprayed acoustic finishes create an acoustically absorbent surface which lowers noise levels by reducing reverberation and flutter echo. Sprayed acoustic finishes can be installed on virtually any substrate for both new construction and retrofitting already occupied noisy areas. Make it a point to visit ICC’s exhibit and attend their program in the Learning Lounge on June 2nd Your ears will thank you.
Speaker: Richard E. Walborn, SonaKrete Product Manager, International Cellulose Corporation
11:15 - 11:45 AM Expensive Real Estate: Lowering The Cost Of Science Facilities
Science classrooms and laboratories by their nature represent some of the most expensive real estate in a school. Construction funding can be scarce, but schools must still be built and renovated. At the same time there are continued increased demands throughout schools for expensive "healthy" materials, technology, security and other capital asset features. Traditional designs and materials need to be re-examined - and changed - to help keep school construction and renovation costs down. This talk will introduce innovative, effective, non-proprietary ideas that will lower costs while maintaining quality of materials and of teaching methods for science facilities.
Speaker: Dave Withee, Manager Sales & Marketing, Diversified Woodcrafts, Inc
12:00 - 12:30 PM How To Save 25 - 50% Off Annual Heating Costs And The Systems To Get You There
This presentation will describe typical heating system’s operating efficiencies and show the potential to save 25-50% in gas usage during the heating season and anytime that hot water generation is needed. There will be a thorough description of existing systems and product design that result in heating systems operating between 50 and 75% efficiency. The presentation will result in learning what new technologies exist in boilers and how to apply them in more aggressive, energy-saving systems that can potentially reduce installed costs by reducing the amount of system components and the opportunity to operate their systems in the 90%+ range resulting in 25-50% energy savings.
Speaker: Harold W. Krebs, National Sales Manager, Aerco International
12:40 - 1:10 PM Photovoltaic Systems: A Thinking Cap For High Performance Schools
Attendees will gain an entry level understanding of available photovoltaic technology, the features and benefits of these technologies as they are integrated into the building envelope, and special factors to consider when choosing a system for your high performance school including sustainability, energy offset, and your roof as a learning tool.
Speaker: Craig Isaacson, VP Business Development, ePGEN - a Derbigum Energy Innovation
1:20 - 1:50 PM Partnering To Perfect Your Playground Vision
The best play environments are not in catalogs – they are envisioned as a collaborative effort between experts in play and playground design, architects who capture the spirit of a project and end users who see the playground as an extension of the curriculum or facility. Grounds For Play has a 26-year record of capturing those visions all over the world and turning them into stellar play environments. Attendees will learn the benefits of partnering with multidisciplinary experts when designing outdoor play and learning environments and will learn about the new national safety guidelines, developmental appropriateness and inclusive, accessible design
Speaker: Dr. Eric Strickland, Founder and Chairman, Grounds For Play, Inc.
