  FACILITY DESIGN FOR SCHOOL AND CAMPUS SECURITY

This special pre-conference workshop will show you how you can employ facility design for a major impact on occupant security. You'll learn how you can make building and design choices that positively affect everything from deterring intruders, minimizing bullying, and preventing an ambush.

     See the right way to employ passive design elements in addition to electronics, security hardware, and lighting to improve the security of your buildings. If your building owners are concerned about student and staff safety, this is a sesion you absolutely must attend.

Prakash Nair is a futurist, a visionary school planner and architect and, one of the world’s leading change agents in school design. He is the Managing Editor of DesignShare.com which attracts over one million visitors a year.

     He is the recipient of several international awards including the prestigious CEFPI MacConnell Award.

Formerly a manager of a major construction project in the New York City Schools, Nair has designed schools in 23 countries on five continents. He has written extensively in leading international journals about school design.

     In this address, Prakash will share his most recent world view of school design, based on his extensive work around the globe.

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and author of six architecture books, Paul Goldberger is the architecture critic of The New Yorker Prior to that, he held the same post at The New York Times for fifteen years.

     He has also been Dean of Parsons School of Design, one of the world's leading institutions of design-based professional and liberal arts education. In addition, Mr. Goldberger has been on the architecture faculty of Yale University and The University of California at Berkeley.

The Pearl River office tower, now being constructed in Guangzhou, China, is a major step toward zero-energy construction, and may even return energy to the grid, through its innovative us of integrated wind turbines in the building and other technologies. The building also features solar capture, waterh harvesting, and much more. It has been called "the world's greenest commercial building."
